Open Source and Services

CEDE has designed and developed a number of open source systems and online shared services for the benefit of the sector.

Kit-Catalogue is an online, open source system that can help any organisation effectively catalogue, record and locate their kit. This might be laboratory equipment, workshop machines, ICT and specialist tools – in fact any physical asset that requires descriptive information to be recorded, the item located and then used to its full potential. Kit-Catalogue can contain a wealth of information on each item including its; specification, custodian, location, handbook, access requirements, usage data and photos.

WebPA is an online peer assessment system, or more specifically, a peer-moderated marking system. It is designed for teams of students doing group-work, the outcome of which earns an overall group mark. Each student in a group grades their team-mates (and their own) performance. This grading is then used with the overall group mark to provide each student with an individual grade. The individual grade reflects the student’s contribution to the group.

Co-Tutor Commercialisation

Co-Tutor is a Student & Staff Relationship Management (SSRM) system and is used by academic staff and administrators, at Loughborough University (UK), to communicate with and manage personal tutees, project students, industrial placement activities, postgraduate research supervision and course cohorts. It is a large PHP/MySQL web application with interfaces to the University’s Student Information System, attendance monitoring software, and the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).
Significant HEIF funding has enabled further development and enhancement of Co-Tutor in order to commercialise the system.
