Conference Summary

The fifth in the popular and highly regarded series of international EE conferences was held at Coventry University during 18th - 20th September 2012 and attracted 150 delegates. This international conference was dedicated to enhancing the quality of higher education in all engineering disciplines. It served as a forum for sharing innovation and effective practice and provided delegates with the opportunity to critically and creatively engage with new ideas and research.

A total of 83 papers and workshops were delivered over the three days, addressing aspects of the conference themes:

  • Inspiring young people to study engineering; outreach activity
  • Engaging and retaining engineering students in their studies including curriculum development
  • Assessment and feedback
  • Learning spaces and environment
  • Technology-supported learning; use of VLEs
  • Working with employers
  • Preparing the engineers of the future including sustainable development, internationalisation, globalisation, ethics and values
  • Graduate skills
  • Continuing professional development of practising engineers
  • Work based learning

Engineering Students

Day 2 of the conference was designed to be of particular interest to students. A competition was held for student posters and the winner was: Nicola Greene, Loughborough University, with her poster entitled “The Many Hats of the Global Engineer”
